Blank Stage empowers the student with the basic understanding of solid improv scene work or the fundamentals of any improv scene. Through the conception of the 10 commandments of improvisation, students will learn the correct form to establish an environment, create a relationship, introduce a problem and solve the problem. Learn in a safe, action packed, fun environment. Improv at the Blank Stage is great for the actor and the non-actor alike. Most of our first time students are not performers rather simply looking to do something different, something fun. Many have found that improv improves their day-to-day communication skills, problem solving abilities and ability to think outside the box. Each 6-week course ends with a graduation show and students can take the class again for half price.

In America’s quest for perfection, the goal is to look and act…well, perfectly. Just look around and you will those who want to make the most money, to drive the most expensive car and be seen with the who’s who. Well things are about to change when our hero takes matters into his own hands. This May, Blank Stage Productions presents the world premiere of Mr. Right Enough, the story of the average joe on his unique quest for love and acceptance.

”

The Blank Stage Players will combine the spontaneity of improvisation with the principles of traditional storytelling. For each performance, the cast will choose the characters for their show directly from the audience, guaranteeing a different show every night!

This show marks the seventh improvised performance for Blank Stage Productions, formerly known for improvised romantic comedies such as, Unpredictable and The American Icon Reject Debacle. Vas Sanchez will be returning for the second time as the show’s director, previously directing Exposed, a short-form comedy show.

”

“This show is unique, compared to the traditional theatre experience. It’s improvised, it’s funny… you can bring your family or your date. But the best part is that our audience is giving to the show. By incorporating information from our audience profiles, anyone can participate from their seat.” says Mr. Right Enough director, Vas Sanchez.

Each night before the show, Blank Stage audience members are given profiles that can be submitted for possible inclusion into the show. As many as eight audience members per show have had the opportunity to see themselves portrayed as a character in a Blank Stage performance.

”

The Blank Stage Players use a form of improvisation they have dubbed, “long-form improv”. As opposed to the typical improv show, where theatre games are used (much like the popular television show, Whose Line Is It Anyway), long-form improv allows the actors to tell a cohesive story, improvising their lines as they go along. Blank Stage Executive Producer Brent Brooks has spent years cultivating this unique theater experience, training his cast to combine the basic principles of improvisational theatre, with a storytelling structure commonly used in contemporary writing.

As his next project, Brent Brooks, in conjunction with Vas Sanchez, writer Corey Boggess, and Blank Stage Player Carlette Jennings, will be writing a screenplay, based on the concept behind Mr. Right Enough. Blank Stage also doubles as a full fledged video production studio. Executive Producer Brent Brooks has been involved in the entertainment industry for quite some time. His second film, Art of Suicide, has appeared in several film festivals, including the Asheville Film Festival and winning “Best Underground film” in LA’sIndie Fest U.S.A.

Look what I can do! - The Commedia dell’Arte workshop.

Ever heard of Commedia?  Maybe seen a performance?  Want to know how to spell it?  (see above)  Well, here’s your chance to not only see how it’s done but actually get up and do it!  Discover the roots of modern improvisation as we step back in time in this engaging, interactive workshop.

On Sunday, March 9th from 5-8 p.m., instructor John Jenkinson will be holding a hands-on workshop that will teach the history, the characters, and the meaning behind Commedia at The Blank Stage.

Just what is it?  Sounds foreign

Commedia dell’Arte is more afraid of you than you are of it.  By employing stock characters from 16th century Italy, improvised scenarios are played out with timeless physical humor, prop shenanigans, and impressive mask work.  That’s right- we use masks!

Any young (-at-heart) actor will fall in love with this form!   There is so much to learn from these zany characters- ones that were created and have not changed for nearly 500 years!

So come out to The Blank Stage and enjoy- because this workshop is FREE!  Limit 15.

See you on the 9th! (and remember daylight savings time)

FREE Commedia dell’Arte workshop, Sunday, March 9th 5-8 p.m. @ The Blank Stage - 585 Cobb Parkway, Marietta Ga. 30060, 706.254.198, john@blankstageproductions.com
